At Physique Physiotherapy, Mount Tamborine, our therapists are trained to use acupuncture needles as a support to long-term and lasting effective solutions to the many health issues our patients may be experiencing.
Are we Acupuncturists?
We are not acupuncturists and do not claim to practice any form of traditional Chinese medicine. We do, however, know that the use of acupuncture needles into certain anatomical points are a great adjunct to our Hands-On approach. All of our therapists have undertaken extra post graduate training in this field and are very proficient in using it as an added practise to our Hands-On treatment techniques.
What is Dry Needling?
The practice of ‘dry needling’ involves inserting an acupuncture needle into your trigger point and is typically used to treat the pain associated with injuries. A trigger point is a tender spot in a tight band of muscle which causes you pain when pressed or squeezed. It is extremely effective, and when used in combination with our other Hands-On treatment techniques it contributes significantly to the restoration of your normal tissue function.
What is Western Acupuncture?
Western Acupuncture utilises anatomical points to provide stimulation of your neurological, vascular and muscular systems to promote healing throughout your damaged tissue. It does not utilise any traditional Chinese medicine assessment methods or paradigms. It can be very effective in providing local tissue pain relief and aids greatly in the relaxation of your muscles that are tight.
Who Gets Needled?
We do not use needles on everyone, and each patient is carefully assessed to see if it would be of benefit to them as an individual. And of course, if you don’t want it, you don’t get it! At Physique Physiotherapy we develop our treatment plans in conjunction with our patients and we listen.
